Hello and Welcome to the Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering!
ASBME functions as a bridge-builder between students, faculty, and industry. The club organizes tours of Southern California biomedical companies and research institutes devoted to medical technology; sponsors on-campus presentations by alumni and industry speakers; enhances student life with fun social events like beach trips, movie nights, and barbecues; and promotes faculty-student-industry interaction with events such as the annual BME Corporate Luncheon.

A few members of ASBME for 2011-2012.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Manbir Singh, Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering.
After receiving his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Singh conducted post-doctoral studies at UCLA in Biomedical Physics at the Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Biology. Subsequently, he spent one year at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota as a Visiting Scholar of the American Heart Association where he did the first studies in SPECT. He joined the Department of Radiology at USC in 1977 and received a joint appointment in Biomedical Engineering in 1988.
Dr. Singh pioneered the use of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) to detect and quantify acute myocardial infarctions in three dimensions, and he was one of the first investigators to demonstrate the synergism of X-ray CT and nuclear medicine SPECT imaging in detecting and visualizing both the anatomy and function of the heart.
Dr. Singh was the nationally elected AdCom representative for Nuclear Medical Sciences in the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Society (NPSS) from 1986-1989, co-founder of the IEEE Medical Imaging Conference in 1990, the technical chair for Nuclear Medical Sciences within IEEE NPSS from 1991 -1993, and Scientific Program Chair of the 1992 and 1993 IEEE Medical Imaging Conferences. During the mid 80s he also proposed the concept of using magnetoencephalography (MEG) to image the electrical activity of distribute neuronal sources inside the human brain and operated a SQUID MEG lab at USC.
His latest interests were in functional MRI and DTI tractography with applications of DTI to Alzheimer Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury. He was the founder and Director of the Neuroimaging core at USC, which develops new methodology in fMRI and DTI. Dr. Singh was also the founding director of the graduate program in Biomedical Imaging within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at USC.
Manbir passed away while visiting family in India. Further details will be announced as soon as we have them.

Teaching Kids at Murchison!
There will be a new module we will be teaching the kids at Murchison. So we will be working with 3rd graders teaching them about the eye! As you know, if you are able to help, we would love to have you there. It is only 6 lessons and we will be there Thursdays and Fridays beginning, April 26 &27, May 3&4, May 10&11. We would be in the classroom from 1.15-2.15pm, just like last module. Let me know if you are available and of course we will pay you again with the Visa Gift Cards, $20 per lesson.
Please reply to asbme@usc.edu by April 24th if you are interested! Hope you will be able to join us this module!!
Give Back to the ASBME Test Bank!
As the school year wraps up, we're sure you're all tired of taking tests - so send some to us instead! As a new policy, in order to have access to the ASBME testbank for the upcoming school year of 2012-2013, you must send a minimum of three tests to the ASBME testbank from the 2011-2012 school year. Please refrain from sending back tests that you may have received from the testbank this year. For each test, please title the test as the class name followed by the particular test and then the year or semester (ie. CHEM 105b Midterm 2 (2001), BME 210 Midterm 1 (2005)), and save the file as a PDF. Send all tests to asbme.testbank@gmail.com. Thanks!
ASBME Test Bank
Link: I want a test!
ASBME has a new and improved test bank for the 2011-2012 year! If you would like to request a test, please do so in a timely manner. A few rules:
1) Test bank requests will be checked every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights so plan accordingly!
2) Please submit your request at the above link.
3) If the exam is not listed on the form, our test bank does not contain this test.
4) Fill out a separate form for every exam you want.
5) You must be an ASBME member to request a test. Email asbme@usc.edu if you are interested in becoming a member.
6) Email asbme.testbank@gmail.com if you have any further questions.
We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity!
Textbook Exchange
Have a book you want to sell from this year or buy for next year? Post on our textbook exchange! Contact sellers and buyers on your own and please update the document once a book is bought or sold. We will not be managing the document or contacting buyers or sellers, we are simply providing this form as a central hub to members of Viterbi Student Orgs
